DESCRIPTION
Inspired entirely by the embroidery traditions of the Gaza region, this dress showcases many of the distinctive features that define Gazan embroidery, particularly in the neckline, side panels (banayeq), and sleeves. The rich blue fabric was carefully chosen to evoke the waters of the Mediterranean Sea along Gaza’s coast, while silk threads in shades of slate blue, sky blue, and vibrant red create a striking yet harmonious palette.
The neckline is richly embroidered with motifs inspired by the original patterns of the traditional Gaza dress, serving as the focal point of the design. The wide raddan sleeves offer a contemporary interpretation of the classic Gaza dress, which was traditionally characterized by narrow sleeves. The embroidery incorporates several iconic Palestinian motifs, including the Feather motif (Reesh), the Steps motif (Daraj), the Hijab motif, and the Mountains and Cypress motif, each contributing to a design that celebrates the richness, artistry, and enduring legacy of Gaza’s embroidery heritage.
