Sabah Zuhour
Sabah Zuhour
Sabah Zuhour began her journey with Palestinian embroidery at the age of eighteen, when she joined Inash Al-Usra Society to study the art of embroidery and the tambour frame (tara). With her talent and passion for the craft, the Society saw in her skill an opportunity to develop her role, and she moved to work within the Society's team of embroiderers, becoming part of the effort to preserve traditional Palestinian hand embroidery.
Today, Sabah works on embroidering Al-Qasab (Tahrira) on the Malakeh dress, one of the distinctive embroidery techniques that requires precision and high expertise. This work holds special meaning for her, because the village she was displaced from, "Lifta," was known for a distinctive dress that also used the Al-Qasab technique. Through her work at the Society, she seeks to preserve the details of this heritage and pass it on to future generations, so that the memory of the place remains present in every stitch.
